Hi all,

I have just watched an unboxing video on YouTube and I am jealous of the neat US MacBook charger plugs with the fold away pins.

The UK charger plug is rubbish in comparison, with the three pins sticking out all of the time, scratching anything it's in your bag with.

I know the three pins and wider spacing of the UK plug make it a bit trickier, but you can get UK USB chargers with folding pins.

Does anyone know of a better slide-on UK plug for MacBook chargers? Would be great for my new MacBook TB.

Thanks,

Matt

None that I'm aware of. It might be an issue of the UK legislation regarding plugs, with UK plug design being possibly the bulkiest and safest in the world. Far more robust than the US plug. And possibly UK regulations might limit the manufacture of these to anything above 5-10W load, or it might simply be a practical challenge to make the huge UK pins and assembly fold and take 30W power safely. I'm not an electrical engineer, so I'm just guessing. A workaround might be to make some sort of housing to slot the plug into, so it doesn't scratch anything. Or you could buy a female plug socket (the kind you find on the end of an extension reel) and use that for travel purposes, although I realise that this would add a bit of bulk and weight.
