I am writing to warn any Berlin based residents to think twice before taking their computers to the Apple Store on Kurfürstendamm for repairs. In November last year I encountered a problem with my 17" 2011 MBP not being able to hold a wi-fi connection for more than a minute or two. After leaving my computer in the hands of the "Geniuses" at Apple, I received a quote for repair the repair at a cost of €626.58 including labour. The "Genius" told me that my wi-fi antenna was faulty and this particular part comes pre-assembled with the LCD display, hence the astronomical quote for repair. I declined the repair and used a USB wi-fi receiver for the last year until I happened upon information that the Bluetooth Airport Flex Cable could be at fault. Giving the part cost only 16EUR, I thought it was worth a try and after swapping the old cable out I now have a fully functional wi-fi connection again.

To think that Apple were wanting to charge me a sum almost 40 times greater than was necessary is alone mind-boggling. That said, if I had been willing to pay that sum, would they have installed the new display and realised the diagnosis was incorrect? I find it nothing but lousy, that Apple's own Genius staff are so poorly trained/undersupplied, that they are unable to correctly diagnose problems as simple as this at what can sometimes be a considerable expense to the customer.

Consumers beware!!!
