Hi all

Just gotta say that I find it totally baffling that Apple actually think it’s ok to release a phone like the 8 with its huge bezels in 2017.

Let’s be honest, they were really pushing it last year in 2016 with the 7. At the time Samsung were way ahead of them in their screen technology as were many other smartphone manufacturers.

Even though I bought the 7 I remember being pretty disappointed with the design, particularly the screen.

To do it again in 2017 I just find it incredible.

Who is really going to buy these??

Rant over...

I find it baffling that Samsung is releasing bezel less phones that are narrow? What about Samsung's ancient message app? Finger scanner on back? Isnt Samsung bringing back flip phones?

Who is going to buy these? Iphone 6 and Older model owners who have been waiting for 3 years or more for a worthy upgrade.

The best phone our there is the LGV30, unfortunately it doesn't run iOS and there is basically no release information on it.

I feel like I'd go with an 8 Plus over an X otherwise. Money isn't a huge issue but I'd save $200. Only other real difference is Touch ID vs. Face ID and I could go either way on that. But those bezels. I'm used to them now but if I keep that phone 2-3 years, do I want those bezels in 2020? I'm thinking that's a big fat no.

I like the bezels. Maybe it's a sign that I'm getting older but I've had android phones with no buttons, and it isn't amazing (I even rooted and had a setup extremely close to how the X works, don't like it). I'm glad that Apple gave people the choice, but I'm also glad that they released phones with the traditional home button. Kind of sad to see no oled on the 5.5, but it'll come eventually and maybe around that time the iPad will be updated to so the transition isn't always so obvious.

Now I know why I never post on these forums, I’m out....

Your complaint is that Apple should be making a phone without bezels in 2017, and they are, and you're buying it. This is like me complaining that Apple makes a 4" screen phone in 2017. How dare they! Don't they know what Samsung or LG is making?!

When did I complain about them making one without bezels? My complaint was the HUGE bezels if you actually read what I said. Please don’t twist my words.

The X is much more on par with that you would expect from a 2017 phone screen/bezel wise, which is why I will be purchasing it. I love my iPhones

Again, this is why I never post on here. Everyone takes everything as a personal attack against them and Apple, which was not my intention. I love Apple and it’s products, I was just stating my disappointment in the 8

I'm disappointed in the x to be honest. The one thing you can count on when your posting on the internet is that somebody will probably strongly disagree with you. If everybodys willing to have a constructive talk about it however it can be useful. Bezels are annoying, but they are useful for including things such as physical buttons, and they also add space that can be used to contain a larger battery. Those two things make them worth it in my opinion. You asked who is going to buy them, you cannot get angry when people who are show up.

The poster read you loud and clear. You may not have read what they said properly:

I’ll be all over the iPhone 8 plus space grey once I can my hand on one. I don’t really care about bezels. I like my screens rectangular and the ability to hold my phone without triggering anything because the bezels are too small

Bezels don’t bother me. However, I’d never drop $1,000 on a phone with that ugly notch.

That thing drives me -insane-. I have OCD so it might be related to that, but I just cannot freaking deal with it. It's worse than the white iPhones with the black dots all over the front so the sensors work (when Steve jobs announced the iPhone 4 it it was -all- white ) I cannot imagine spending that much money to look at that thing. My brother recently got an se and for some reason that one just reminds me of a cyclops because of the camera :p

I did understand your complaint. You're complaining that Apple is making phones with big bezels in 2017, which implies that Apple should be making phones without big bezels, and guess what? They are!

It's funny that you're complaining about me taking your post as a personal attack, which I don't, when you're taking my posts as a personal attack against you, which they aren't.

Again, Apple is making the phone you want this year, the X, a phone without bezels. They're also making the 8/8 Plus, which do have bezels. They're also still making the 6s, which has a headphone jack, and the SE, which has a 4" screen. If you want a phone without bezels, Apple is making it. If you want a phone with TouchID, Apple is making it. If you want a phone with a heaphone jack, Apple is making it. If you want a 4" screen phone, Apple is making it.

My question is why are you leveling a complaint against the 8/Plus for having big bezels when Apple is making a phone without bezels and you're going to buy that phone instead of the 8? Like I said, it's like me complaining about the SE because small screens are so 2010. Tons of people here love the SE. I don't like small screens, but it seems odd to complain about them when Apple makes larger screen phones now. Similarly, you don't like big bezels but it seems odd to complain about them when Apple is making a phone without bezels.

Ok so I shall reiterate the point I was trying to make, which probably most people understood ( if they were not complete fan boys who took it personally)

How can Apple think it’s ok to release a phone with bezels and a screen that the 8 has and charge the price they are and justify it, especially compared to what other manufacturers are charging for their flagships.

Yes they have released the X, with no bezel, which I think is awesome and I will purchase, but at what cost! How can they make people pay that much for what other manufacturers are offering at at least 200-300 pounds less,

I’m sorry but it just doesn’t sit right with me.

This post contains far too much logic and rational thinking for an internet message board!

Again, I'm not a fanboy and I'm not taking it personally. I just find your complaint silly given that the X exists.

Now you're adding price into the equation, which you didn't mention originally. Apple has always charged a premium for iPhones. I agree that the X is overpriced. I'm not buying it. I'm buying an 8 Plus, because the bezels don't bother me and I want TouchID.

I do think that in the next few years, the current line will be merged with the X tech and bezel-less iPhones will be the standard. Right now Apple is feeling the crunch of manufacturing problems and R&D costs, hence the high price of the X.

I suppose Apple could have stuck with LCD and put the TouchID under the display as they wanted to do with the X, but it's clear they want to make the X the future of their phone division but couldn't quite get it where they want it to be, so for now it's being placed as a premium product. As manufacturing ramps up and tech like under the display TouchID get sorted, we'll see the X design become the standard and at lower prices than the current X is going for.

Fair enough to your last couple of paragraphs, but for now, and compared to their rivals, Apple are taking the p*ss and blatantly being greedy.

I stand by my OP, how can they justify it in 2017?
