When I connect my iPhone 4, it says that I have 4.4g of photos on it. However, I have deleted all my pics from the camera roll, have unchecked sync photos and even went so far as to restore my phone with no avail and it still says I have 4.4 gig of pics on it.

Any ideas as to why it says I have that much space occupied by pics and how to remedy it?

Thanks!

do you take pictures from your mms app? pictures taken from the messenger app are stored someplace other then camera roll, for how long i do not know,

I took some from mms, but surely not 4 gig worth. Do you know where these mms pics are stored?

They are stored within your iTunes backup and on your device here: /Library/SMS/Parts if your iPhone has a JB.
If you are running iTunes on a PC then you can make a backup of all your important databases with iTwin. You can then delete all your MMS and see if one had a faulty size. In my case it was an incomplete MMS-video that took about 1 gig on my iPhone.

To be more precise its: /private/var/mobile/Library/SMS
