After days or hours of uptime (varies) my iMac gets into a state where adjustments to volume via keyboard can take around 30 seconds or more to register as indicated by the volume pop-up on the display and "click" sound.

Once my mac is in this state, I don't know how to get out of it without a reboot. I've tried killing/restarting coreaudiod and other processes. No luck. I've also noticed that once in this state system request like shutdown take forever as well and result in the beachball. Applications however seem fine and unaffected as long as they are not trying to do audio playback. For example, safari scrolling and page load looks good, but trying to play a video with MPV won't start, probably because the audio service isn't responding.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I have a bunch of third party stuff installed and don't want to start tearing it out because I don't have a simple repro for these symptoms. So it's not like I can remove Loopback and do something to confirm it was Loopback causing the problem. I would just have to wait.

Me too. I have a Logitech Craft keyboard and turning the knob doesn't immediately result in Volume changes. Neither does using the Function+F12 (or F13) combination. I'm sorry to hear that I'm not alone with this difficulty. If I have to have an immediate sound volume change, I use the speaker icon in the Menu Bar.

I had this also on a 2020 i5 MBP (w/ Touch Bar) running 11.5. Sent Apple a bug report and the problem was fixed for me in 11.5.2. The delay seemed to be 10 seconds for each time I pressed the Touch Bar volume key.

Drove me nuts. And I was about to "upgrade" to the Monterrey beta to get rid of it. Wish you guys luck with this one
