Hi,
I am "lucky" to own a "beloved" T2 chip late 2018 13" MBP.
I have an issue since upgrade to Big Sur yesterday.
I wanted to place an order using Apple Pay but I realised that it has been deactivated by Apple (Mac OS). Trying to look into system preferences, it seems Big Sur does not allow Apple Pay activation if the T2 security settings are not set to "Maximum".
When I had this MPB, with Mojave pre installed, I built myself an external windows 10 SSD drive to be able to use my old windows apps (specifically Architect 3D) without sacrificing space for a bootcamp install. I built it relying on an official MS win10, so that I was confident that the OS I installed was legitimate. I realised that the T2 chip was preventing the MBP to boot from that external drive unless I set T2 security settings to "low" and authorised to boot from an external drive, which I did.
At that time, I could activate Apple Pay and everything worked perfectly fine until I upgraded to Big Sur.
As I want to use Apple Pay on my Mac, I had to revert security settings to its "Maximum" level which prevents me to boot from windows on my external drive which I trust.
I understand that providing user with greater security makes perfect sense with more and more threats to personal data integrity. But, people that know what risks they take and accept it should be allowed to overcome some security features. I feel that I don't really own my computer.
By the way, I really don't want to rely on bootcamp to install windows 10 and will be missing old app I used on that platform (Architect 3D, which files are not compatible with current Mac version, which cost too much money for me for the features I would like to use).
Has anyone been in the same situation ? Could you find a work around ?
Sorry for the long post. Thank you for your help.
