I have been using an external SSD for some time with no issues. Catalina on internal, and external. iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014)
I installed Big Sure at release. All went well, then it rebooted and it loaded the internal disk. If you do an Option + Boot, the external boot drive just doesnt show up. You can choose the external disk from Preferences --> Start Up Disk, but when it reboots, it boots into the internal disk.. Why? There are no warnings or pop ups.. The drive shows up in finder.
I see a few people posting about this with the beta version, with pop ups etc, but I dont have that same issue. It quietly refuses to booth to the external drive.
