Billing Question

I just bought a new iPhone from apple.com with a new AT&T plan. A small plan with the 450 minutes $39.99, $30.00 data plan, and $15.00 for 1500 text msgs.

This adds up to: $84.99

I am activating my phone on June 29th when it is delivered. I live in Michigan.

What should I expect my first bill to be?

How much will tax and activation cost? and should I really have to worry about being prorated?

So, I should expect this bill to be a lot of cash then? Great. Just signed up with ATT and it looks like I'm already screwed for the first bill.

oops sorry I shouldve included the total. Yes mine was $236. Your plan is $5 less than mine, so the MAX your bill could be is around $226. How much less than that will depend on where you are in the billing cycle. I was right at the begining so unfortunately I ended up with 2 full months on the first
bill.

If they bill you a month in advance, does that mean you won't get a bill next month?

My first bill was around $145. You get a prorated charge for the first month. I bought mine on 3G release date, 7/11/08, and my first bill was issued on 7/16/08. I was charged on a prorated basis for 5 days from 7/11-7/16 which was only a few dollars, and then you pre-pay for the next month's usage in full. Activation fee was $36 last year, not sure if it is still the same. So basically, it really depends on when you activated the iPhone based on AT&T's bill schedule. Just expect to pay for a portion of one month's usage plus a full payment and activation fees. I have a FAN discount for like $15 so anywhere from $150-$200 would be a fair bet on your first bill.

I know, it can burn a nice little hole in your pocket unfortunately!

No. Throughout your entire contract you will always be billed a month in advance with AT&T.

I checked my account online and my first bill comes to $138.88. I activated it on the 19th when my 3gs arrived. I have the 450 minutes for $40, data plan for $30, and 1500 texts for $15. Looks like its the $85 for the plan and $36 for an activation fee and the rest is probably random taxes. I can't say exactly in detail since i can't even see the bill, it says the following:

"Your bill is not available for display. If this is your first bill, it will be displayed approximately ten days after the end of your first billing cycle."

I should be getting my statement in the mail within the next few days so i'll see what exactly the charges are. My FAN discount should be in my next billing cycle and thats 21% off so that should help me out every month.
