Hi,

I bought a new Mac Mini a couple of weeks ago and have noticed that whenever I empty the Bin, it takes aaaaages and shows thousands of files being deleted, even though on this particular occasion there were less than 10 files in there.

Can anyone tell me what it is doing? It's also been doing lots of strange things, like when I look in the morning, it's switched off or has rebooted itself, it also seems to eject all the external drives every day or so, even though they're all plugged in still.

So far it's not working nearly as well as the 10 year old iMac it replaced :-(

What you are describing is definitely not normal Mac behavior. Rebooting on its own, being very, very slow, and ejecting drives is rather Zombie like, in my opinion. It could be a coincidence given the owner. :D

If that were my Mac, I would back up any important files and then do a clean install. If you have another Mac that is capable of using the Apple Configurator 2 app, I would use that to do a DFU restore of the new iMac. It is a very quick process (10 - 13 minutes)

If you can't use Configurator 2, you can follow the Apple Support document steps.

Thank you! Yeah, maybe I've zombified it with my undead presence.... :)

I'll try a refresh and see if that helps. Appreciate your advice.
