I'm trying to download a file with an .avi file extension. When I try to download it, it says "Type: binary file". Is there any way to download it as an avi file? Why is it doing this?

I'm using Firefox, so the little download pop-up window that tells me the file details says it's a binary file. I haven't tried that yet, I didn't know if VLC would open a binary file.

Can you link to that .avi file?
And if it is an .avi file and only Firefox calls it "binary file", the error might be only on Firefox' end.

Mod note: not if it violates the forum rules, they can't.

How should I know, there are still a lot of legal .avi files around.
Anyway, after seeing it was an illegally distributed movie, I advised the OP to remove the link, but I guess, this was a one time experience anyway, meaning the OP won't return for a while o even ever.
Any way I write, anyway snugs up on me.
