I'm trying to setup a non-caching DNS using Bind9 on Mac OSX 10.6.8. The purpose of these devices is to provide near-real-time information on hostname statuses, IP allocations, nameservers, etc. acquired via 'dig'. Any help is appreciated.

This book has a whole chapter about DNS and bind and can be downloaded as a PDF: http://www.peachpit.com/store/product.aspx?isbn=0321635353.

I just got certified in this and the book has a lot of useful information.
