Hello,

I just registered this forum while surfing and I’m curious about what you think about Bing.
According to some news it already started to overtake Yahoo. But it seems to me they can’t beat Google. I think more creative ideas and some vision is needed to overtake Google.

Besides of that there’s adsense and adword industry. Google is creative and established firm, Bing brings nothing new to us.

If Google creates linux based operating system, maybe they can overtake Microsoft?

Bing's the one that allowed kids to look at porn (even with family filters), correct?

No, Google and Bing both let you look at Porn (this is with filters off on BOTH). The issue with Bing is it allows you to play content from the Bing window, so you can watch porn right in the Bing page. That's the only difference and that really isn't much different than clicking a link in Google.

You wanna know where they got the name from? The developers decided that it would be cool to allow you to watch porn right from the search without navigating to the actual sites. You watch it long enough and "Bing".

Ahhh that's it, well, I'm sure many a 13-16yo boy loves Bing ;)

I'm not sure we could generate enough searches to see which is better really. I say just use the search engine that gets you what you want. Who cares what everyone else uses. Back in the day, I used WebCrawler while everyone else seemed to be hung on AltaVista.

Interestingly, I use Yahoo a lot... for everything other than searching. I like their movie page, their news page, etc. However, I always switch over to Google for searches.

I ran five searches on this page, though, and got 3 Yahoo, 1 Google, and 1 Bing.

I put google, but I don't really know or care. I didn't take your test.

I don't care which one gives me better results, but even if I did I'm guessing all three would be satisfactory and unless compared side by side (which normally they wouldn't) most people would probably think whichever one they're using is the best. All three probably give pretty much the same results. So why bother deciding which is better? I'm perfectly happy with Google. I love the company and their products, and it's convenient to use their search as well even if it isn't the best. So again, I don't really know or care.

The more I use Bing, the more I like it. Competition for Google can only be a good thing.

I'm uncertain why you bothered to post the longest post in the thread on the fact that you don't care. As you said, obviously all three of them would give comparable results and so it wouldn't really matter which one you use. Bing gave better results in the side-by-side comparison but I'll still use google because I like it.. The idea of the poll was to get an empirical idea of which search engine people prefer without the effects of certain biases we may have. But then again, who cares?

Lol that was the writer in me taking over, I have a tendency to write long posts when I don't mean to. That aside though, I was just trying to make the point that it doesn't matter in the short or long run. I'm a sucker for debate too, just so ya know
anyways, I'll stop stealing the thread now. Carry on, good sirs.

Ok... I know I said I don't care but curiosity killed the cat, right? I did the test, but for my own entertainment I did it very scientifically.
The first to 5 wins.
All searches should be treated like something a friend told me about, and I'm trying to find more about it.
The best result is the one with a relevant search closest to the top, or if it's a tie then the one with the most relevant results.
My name is simply a vanity search, one which I do now and then for fun.

yahoo *****
(Nate Weil, Darwin, MIT, online encyclopedia, BASIC)
google *
(Civil Squabble)
bing None
(...)

So yahoo one. But I have to stand by what I said earlier, I still don't care. Google is still what I'm using. The test was fun though. I did notice one thing... I did the same search in yahoo (Nate Weil) and got slightly different results from the test's yahoo column.

This is the first time I've heard of Bing so I'm giving it a go -- so far I'm impressed...

The image search function is definitely better on Bing I don't think any other search engine has this many options

Found on Bing images.

And I like Bing. Its my new default in Firefox. Not sure how to change the default in Safari.

bing doesn't even find my website. It only returns 40 things for my username. Now how is that possible with over 1000 posts on here?

Still, the Porn-per-Search ratio is much better for Google. That's why I stick with it.

Probably should have called it Schwing!
