BiteSMS & Vol Button question

I just switched from iRealSMS to BiteSMS and noticed one thing that is really annoying. If you use quickcompose, it activates by hitting the vol button and then tapping the box (just like in iReal). But this deactivates the volume buttons.

Is there anyway for it to have both functions, like in iReal?
