I am looking for the best bitrate for importing in iTunes. At the moment I use the standard setting (128kbps) and the sound is good. Recently I was advised to use much higher bitrates and I would like to know the sense of this.
Space is not an important factor but sound quality is. As mentioned 128kbps sounds alright and choosing a higher bitrate so it sounds better than I can actually hear is nonsense. A higher bitrate in order to be able to burn proper audio CD's does make sense. Furthermore iTunes offers Variable Bitrate Encoding (VBR).
Therefor three questions:
- which bitrate offers good sound quality?
- which bitrate is neccesary in order to burn audio CD's of standard quality?
- what effects has VBR on the questions above?

Thanks for the info Blue.
