BIzarre 20 in Monitor Problem

My Dad's monitor a new 20 inch with his powermac G5 has developed a about 3/4 inch rectantualr 'faded section'.

He says that changing the resolution just makes it bigger or smaller and on sone setting it split it.

I'm thinking video card... but I was wondering is this faded section issue has been seen before.

Any input would be appreciated.

If it grows or shrinks, it's likely not the monitor but could be the cable (VERY unlikely). Video card is a good bet. Can you/he connect it to another system to ensure it works with another computer?

He can't (well he probably could) but I could do it faster... I wanted to arm myself with ideas before I trek over there.
