Somehow I now have a duplication of my Admin account, although as a Standard account. It has the same user ID and group ID as my Admin account, but a slightly different short name, the login shell is /bin/bash rather than /bin/tsch and it has differing Home directory folders and UUID. Apart from the mystery of how it got there, I could live with this, except that I find that while I'm working in my Admin account, behind the scenes, my Mac shifts into this rogue Standard account. There is no change in the desktop picture (even though they differ in both accounts); the first inkling I get is when I go to save something and the rogue home folder comes up as the default.
If I try to restart and log into my Admin account, the rogue account finder comes up, it having accepted my Admin password! The only workaround I have is to restart in safe boot, go into Account prefs, click something on or off in the login items or make some other minor change, and then reboot. Usually (though not always) I can get into my Admin account.
I cannot get rid of this rogue account: the little "-" (minus) sign is greyed out in Accounts prefs. I have run Repair Permissions several times, to no effect.
I'm a Unix newbie, so I'm wary of trying any of those methods for getting rid of accounts already posted here, particularly because this rogue account seems to be joined at the hip (or somewhere) with my Admin account. But I'm willing to dive into Terminal if someone can guide me on how I can get rid of this account.
I'm on OS 10.5.8
