I love the current lineup of MBP's and can't wait to upgrade this fall, but I think (cosmetically speaking) the introduction/reintroduction of the color black would be a huge plus. I'm sure apple could come up with a way to keep the unibody design and make some sort of a new black anodized aluminum. That would be stellar. I just think some color changes/options could enhance the lineup. The current ipod nano's are all very chic looking and are made from some sort of aluminum if I'm not mistaken...thoughts?!:apple::D

???

They would never make a black anodized MBP. It goes against their design practices...

How so? I had my 13 inch black macbook for a solid 3 years before it was stolen. I realize it was plastic, but how would a different color of aluminum change any design practices.

Can't anyone see the color scheme of the ipod nano's working for the MBP? Even just one option would be nice. Just sayin'...:apple:

I agree with you actually. I would love a black MacBook Pro. Think it would look very sleek. The silver is nice, but that shouldn't stop them making another nice one.

A red MBP would be dream :D

more overpriced then a normal macbook pro http://www.colorwarepc.com/

Wow, $550 to send it in and have them paint it however you like. How much does it cost to paint a car again? :p

They charge you $2550 for the base MBP, so its cheaper to buy one from Apple and send it in for $550 instead.

Also if you have the Antiglare screen, the price is $900 to send it in and $2900 to buy it new! $350 more to paint a small bezel? Maybe they need to disassemble it more.

EDIT: Actually the prices vary a bit by color and which components you choose. I was looking at coloring EVERYTHING black matte.

FYI, the Black MacBook was a MacBook, not a MacBook Pro, some anodized alu could work, but the problem with it is that when it gets scratched it looks very ugly

More than likely it will be powder coated like the current macbook pros. And then scratches will not look any worse than they do now mostly.

Your argument is like saying, people should only buy silver or gray cars because a scratch on a red or black car looks worse. Then as a notebook, macbook pro is much less likely to be scratched when properly cared for.

Anodizing aluminum makes it harder. My frying pans are anodized aluminum since they make soft Al hard.

On another note, about 100 years ago Ford mass produced the first affordable car for the people, the Model T. When asked what colors it came in he replied, 'it comes in any color you want as long as it is black". That statement contains a important truth since black paint dried fastest making mass production more efficient. (Apple is not about choices, or at least it is about choices Jobs gives us)

Just find a place closest to you that anodizes aluminum. When I made some parts for a company out of aluminum, I had to anodize them for added strength. Black was the chosen color and it came out nice. You just see marks on it a whole lot easier. From basic stuff like having your hands on it to the tiniest of scratches.

I think apple does anodize their aluminum products, just a clear anodize. If people want their unibody macbooks and macbook pros anodized a color of their choice, just take apart the laptop and get the shell done. Depending on how precise the tolerances are for the screws will determine how easy it is to screw back together. Anodizing isn't very thick, so it may just provide a tighter fit for some things when piecing back together.

I don't think Apple would make a black aluminum laptop-- not really their image right now.

This is what a matte Colorwared MacBook Pro looks like:

The top of the line 15" (from June 09) costs a nice $6k :)

A black MacBook Air would be sick!

paint it glow in the dark.

Yes! DO IT!

I'm sure by now someone must have striped down their MBP and had the unibody anodized.. come on whose got links?

Its a nice idea, but I don't think it will happen. Possibly on the lower range Macbook but not the pro.

They did make a black MacBook at one point, but they discontinued it, because it didn't help their image.

What a completely misleading thread title. I thought this was a mod thread. Lame.

Thats what I thought when I first clicked on this thread.

there are already people complaining about the heat of MBP making the outer aluminum shell black would be bad imo since the black will absorb most of the heat of any sort of light source. making the mbp even hotter.
