black and coding in Final Cut Express

I have used the black and coding function in Final Cut Studio Pro but can't find it in FCE. Is it there?

from the deafening silence, I figured there is no official procedure, so I created a 1 hour slug on a timeline and then printed that to tape.

are you talking about striping a tape to ensure consistent timecode?

You are correct that FCE doesn't have a black and code feature like FCP. I've honestly never used FCPs. Whenever I've needed to black a tape I've just put down a frame of black in the sequence.
