Hi,

The header should be "playback on Mac".

This is a problem that has been annoying me for a while but I've not been able to figure out - obviously :(.

On all recordings I make from the TV (whether to a DVD or onto a hard drive recorder) a black border appears around the video (thin on the top, bottom and right hand side - as you face it - but on the left side the black line is much wider) and a set of little white lines appear on the top "black border" (going from the left to the middle of video) when I play it back on my Mac.

At first I thought that this is just what happens to tv recordings, but tv rips on YouTube don't have this problem.

On my DVD recordings, if I rip the disc with MPEG Streamclip and pass it through iMovie the white lines disappear and the black bar on the left halves in width (the border on the rest disappears or at least becomes small enough to not be noticed).

However, iMovie does not do the same with the hard drive recordings plus dark background colours become blocky or pixelated.

I got better quality results by using MPEG Streamclip and then QuickTime Pro to make the video into an AppleTV or iPhone format. I was using QuickTime Pro to cut out the commercials, but recently discovered I can edit like that with Streamclip too.

I've just became caught up in trying to figure out how to get rid of the white lines and the black line on the left.

Can anybody help? Can anybody understand my babbling :)?
