This is strange, as of a few days ago I started getting a black box draw around the area of the active window that currently has focus, i.e. is active. See example below of this box on the back button in Safari.

This is happening in all applications and sometimes leaves the box on the screen when the window has just been closed or when you scroll (other example below). I've not installed any new software recently. It it very annoying.

Any ideas?

Umm... am I missing something? I'm not seeing any black boxes in those screenshots.

Regardless, from the sound of it you accidentally turned Voiceover on:

System Prefs --> Universal Access --> VoiceOver --> Off

Were this the case the system would generally try to read whatever is in the black box out loud.

If that's not it, I have no suggestions.

Doh, now I see it's missing in the screen shots.

And you're both right, it's Voiceover, now it's off and the box is gone. I guess I don't have my speakers on that often

Thanks!!!!!!!
