I have a Black Macbook which although now terribly slow - i still love to death...

It does however have an recurring problem with the case cracking. I am recently told this was actually a design fault with the macbook magnets which does seem to make sense and is consistent with part of the damage...

my question however, is do Apple fix this for free as it is a design fault?

there's an extended warranty for cracked macbook cases. I've had mine replaced four times already (2007 macbook). The most recent replacement was a new design and has lasted me 2 years without similar cracks appearing, so i think its worked. so yes, its free. just take it to an authorised repair shop or apple store.

they won't replace cracked top or side plastic though (despite me trying!).
