Just purchased a black Macbook (late 2008 edition) 2 days ago. I went to apple today to buy a hard case for it to find out they didn't have any. I was also told that the black Macbook can not use the same case as the white MacBooks, due to slight differences. is this true? can anybody help me find a hard case if this is true? very new to the mac world.

If the white Macbook case is made for the same model as the black Macbook, it'll fit. But remember, the white Macbook was made and had its form factor and ports changed after the black Macbook was discontinued.

ahh gotchya.. thanks for the info :) just found one on ebay, at least for now !
