Black MacBook (late 2007) having trouble connecting to the Internet

Hey guys, my black MacBook (late 2007) is having trouble connecting to the Internet via ethernet, there are NO problems via airport at this time.

Steps I've taken so far: called my isp's (cox communications) tech support, and they have confirmed several times that everything is kosher on their end.

Ive made sure that all the network settings were on 'automatic'.

Also tried the old "unplug the modem and plug it back in" trick....no dice.....


Any help out there guys?????
