Hello,

I would like to know if there are any minor differences between the old black iPod Touch 4G and the new white? I don't have any color preference but if Apple fixed any minor issues in the new white iPod then I will go for it otherwise I will buy the black one.

Thanks for the reply.. I would like to hear from other people as well... :)

Please take a look at this excerpt from MacRumor website and let me know what you think:

"...Apple is expected to hold a press conference in the coming weeks to introduce its fall lineup for the iPhone and iPod touch. Most of the rumors have been focused on the next iPhone revision, and there has been very little information about the next-generation iPod touch.

MacRumors has received information indicating that the next iPod touch revision will be a very minor change, with the primary addition being the introduction of a new white model. Only minor changes are expected for the existing hardware, with the addition of an oleophobic coating for the display and a revised ambient light sensor seemingly being the main differences. Otherwise, we expect the models to be nearly identical to the current fourth-generation iPod touch model. ..

Rumors usually don't come true.

Yeah, I know they are only rumors, I thought someone here may have some inside information to confirm or disagree with these rumors.

There is still a chance of 512MB RAM.
Some people still believe in A5 Processor.
One person claimed an Apple told them that there would be a higher camera MP.

Believe what you want, no one knows for sure until Oct 12 or even after.

Ahsaz, thanks for your question. I've been wondering the same thing

BlizzardBolt, thanks for your input.

If either of you learn any more information, please post it in this thread. Even an increase from .7MP camera to 3MP camera would be good news

Doubt thats going to happen but it wouldn't hurt if it did.

I just hope ifixit can get their hands on one on Oct 12 and disassemble it to what really is inside.

Apple has a knack for not talking about minor updates so there might be some new material.

Or if Apple was plain out lazy this year, it might really be the 2010 4G version except in white now.....

I second what you said about ifixit. If it's at all improved, I'm getting it for $399. If not, it'll be a 4th gen refurb for $339. I've even contemplated an unlocked iPhone 4s, or a used iPhone 4 for $300 or so.

What are your purchase decisions?

Currently going to take advantage of Apple's price drop and buy the 8GB.

32GB at 299$ is approaching laptop price, I should be fine sticking to the lowest capacity.

Music collection isn't too big and as long as I transfer HD videos out of my iPod and refrain from downloading 1GB apps, it should be enough.

Of course, you know what is best for you far better than I do. But allow me to share my two cents:

As a previous owner of both the 8GB 2nd generation iPod Touch and the 32GB 4th generation iPod Touch, I highly recommend against an 8GB device.

I sold my 32GB a month ago with plans to upgrade to 64GB. Now I'm not saying you need to go that far, but especially with the HD video maintenance 8GB will waste more time than money saved.

I recommend the 32GB iPod Touch from amazon.com for $274.99; free shipping; no tax.

I did consider 32GB when the 8GB one was 229 but now since it dropped, it seems foolish not to bite at 199 especially when there isn't any other "known"
upgrades.

Assuming there are 6.5GB of space, 1GB set aside for music, 3GB for essential apps. 2.5GB is enough for the HD camera and the mediocre camera sensor.

32 GB seems too much for me, 16GB would most likely be the best fit but I guess I will settle for the 8GB. In theory it would all fit ...I hope.

There is a difference

Hi - I have the black ipod touch and I just bought my daughter the new white ipod touch. I was wondering if there were any differences and there are. One major difference I noticed is that you have the ability to delete songs directly from the white ipod touch without having to plug it into your itunes account. There are also a few new applications that come standard with the white ipod than the black one. Good luck.

Just to let you know, That's iOS 5 for you. You can get those new apps too by plugging your iPod into iTunes on your computer and clicking update.

:D

There is no difference concerning the white iPod and the black one. It's just a new colored glass plate or something. (Whatever Apple's minions do deep inside the factory walls...)
However, if you do buy the new one it comes with iOS5 which has some new apps (that are practically poinless anyways). This goes for the black and the white.

I just bought a new touch and had to get the white. That way I knew for certain that I was getting the latest hardware.
It's a huge improvement over the 2nd gen I have, but there is still a little lag here and there. Bummer.

Whenever you have lag, check to see how many programs you have running in the background and close them (double click the home button to get to the multi-tasking menu). It might just be a coincidence--perhaps the time it takes for me to close the other apps is what allowed the other program to have time to load--but it feels effective.

Is there a way to disable multitasking, or limit the number of apps in the background? It seems clumsy to have to go in and kill each app. And like you say, maybe the difference is all in my head...

No there's no option to do that. I had a 8GB white touch and I did see the lag, especially when u are typing on the keyboard, even with no apps on the background, just Safari.

How full is your ipod? I wonder if things slow down once the device is X% full.

There are only two differences.

:
Hello, There is only two changes one, the color and two the black came pre installed with ios 4.1 while white comes pre installed with 5.0. You can update black to 5.0 but is not pre installed with it. Plus the white one makes you unique:):):):):).

No differences. Personally, I went with a white one as any dust or lint that the thing would pick up from being in my pocket would be much less visible on the iPod touch itself. Minor and completely cosmetic, but it does make for a very slightly nicer experience.
