Black pixels turned Blue?

Hey guys, I have a 2011 macbook pro. I went to turn it on today and the black pixels have turned blue.I guess this is the best way i can describe it. They look like hundreds of tiny blue vertical lines. I attached an external monitor and that was fine. Im guessing its the display that needs to be replaced? The attached photo looks like a blue tint but they are fine vertical lines of black and blue.

I forgot to add that sometimes it flickers back to normal for a few seconds if that makes a difference.
