Black screen - no backlight on booting

I recently installed VMFusion onto my bootcamp partitioned macbook pro -- worked fine until I downloaded VMFusion upgrade -- now cannot boot up my Mac partition. it goes through initial booting and then entire screen goes black. Have discovered the backlight does not come on -- I can use DVI to VGA adaptor to another video monitor and operate my macbook pro that way. I can boot up my original bookcamp windows partition by holding Option on starting to get the partition startup choices and boot windows that way (backlight is fine in windows). Help -- anyone have a solution to this problem?
