Hello,

I need some help with a problem on my 2009 Macbook 2Ghz. One morning I opened up my Mac, and the screen did not come on. I identified the following:
- Backlit light works
- Sound works
- Dimming the screen works
- Connecting the Macbook to an LCD screen, the desktop appears, but with inverted colors. I can also move the cursor to the left far beyond the screen.
- A robot type icon appeared on the desktop, which I did not have before
- All images are shown in 'negative' colors

I am wondering if I either have virus, a screen defect, or video card defect.

Has anyone seen this before, or can someone tell me where to search. If I need to buy a board, that is pretty expensive so I want to make sure I buy the right part.

Thanks,

I can eliminate one possibility for you. You don't have a virus. No viruses exist in the wild that can run on Mac OS X, and there never have been any, since it was released 10 years ago. The handful of trojans that exist can be easily avoided with some basic education, common sense and care in what software you install:
