Hi

I'm acting tech support on my fathers iMac(Late 2009). The other day when he tried to start it, the screen wouldn't turn on and hasn't since. I've read the this exact model suffers from faulty GPUs, so this could be a cause of the problem. I have tried connecting and external monitor through displayport and that works just fine. I guest this talks against a faulty GPU?
It could also be the display it self. I have thought about using the iMac as an external monitor though "Target Display Mode", would this determine whether or not if it is the display that is broken?
One last option, which I think is not super plausible, is that it is an update that caused it. I know that 10.10.2 was install the same day as the display went black. Is it an option that the update caused this? I have tried booting Windows 7 through bootcamp and the display still wouldn't turn on. I guess this talk against it being a faulty software update?
