Black Screen Problem - Re-direct

Hello.

Thought I'd re-direct my question posed yesterday over here to see if anyone here has some advice for me.

A couple of days ago I downloaded the lastest "security update" from the Apple site as per usual and got the "black screen" for the very first time in my life since being a Mac user. (started when Illustrator88 came out)
