MBP 1,1-10,2 Black screen

I have a 2007 MBP Santa Rosa core 2 duo that seems to turn on but the screen stays dark so I can’t see what’s up. There is a chime, and if I hold the power button down for a few seconds, it seems to turn off.
can anyone please suggest a way to connect another screen to see what the computer is doing?

Your MBP has a DVI out. Buy a DVI-cable and plug it into the computer and other end to a compatible display. You might need a DVI to VGA -adapter or something to connect to the display depending on what connections it has.

Might be a dead GPU. These machines are notorious for that. Check with an external monitor as suggested above. Another possibility is a failed LCD backlight (happened to mine) — can you see anything when you shine a bright flashlight on the display?

Thanks. I have tons of old cables.
When I connect another screen through my dvi, I don't see anything, but it could be because it is defaulting to the main screen and I am unable to set it for an external monitor.

What happens when you close the lid so that it enters clamshell mode?

= If you press the start button and immediately close the lid the computer should automatically default to external screen.
