I am not sure what I pressed, but I am sure it has something to do with either the Command or Fn key. But I can tab through fields and a black square moves from one to one following each Tab key. How can I turn this off?

Can you post a picture? Each field is supposed to be highlighted with a border, and I think you can customize that color. Is that what you are talking about?
 
Command-F5 should turn this off - it's a visual aid for accessibility ... that is, if this is what you're talking about.

That is what I was talking about, but Shift+F7 solved it. I think Command+F5 is the VoiceOver. On/Off
 
Shift-F7 does nothing on my Mac. Did you add some nonstandard shortcuts?

Yes, Command-F5 is the voice over, which also adds the black boxes.
