I finally had the sticky keyboard on my 2017 MBP fixed by Apple. It was a voluntary recall Apple allowed. The recall just ended so I got it done last second.

It appears the fix involved them replacing the entire space grey outside assembly. It looks brand new and there is black tape covering the USB-C ports--the kind of tape I initially thought the user is supposed to peel away when they are ready to use.

However, the tape has holes for the USB-C ports. Since the connections holding ability were terrible on this year's MBP I left the black tape on, and now the connections are very strong.

Was this tape put on as a fix? Or is this just a coincidence?

Tape is supposed to be removed. I don't think there's any situation where Apple would designate tape as a fix.

That's what I was guessing too. I'm sure Apple would have done a fancier fix.

That said, it works great (so far), so it's staying!
