black thing on screen

does anyone know what this is it how this was caused? I set down my laptop to go get something and came back and opened it to see the screen all messed up. is there something I can do to fix it or do I need to take it to apple? will the warranty cover it? and it's a MacBook Pro with retina display and I got it a couple of months ago

It looks like a GPU defect/problem~ Take it to the Apple store and it should most likely be covered since it's still under the 1 year warranty!

Agreed, looks like an impact point right around where the green/black/purple come together. OP, sorry to say someone may have dropped something on there.
