This is kind of a random question, but I’m curious if anyone knows.

I just picked up a used Early 2015 MacBook Pro 13”, as a somewhat replacement for my 2012 13”, and noticed that the UEFI is lack rather than white (And the Apple logo and such are now reversed to white.)

My 2012 boots white. When did they start booting black and why? Does it have something to do with matching Windows?

I thought the white was kind of iconic.

The black boot screens started with OS X Yosemite (and accompanying firmware update), and are only seen on the MacBook Pro models with Retina displays starting with the Mid 2012 Retina, and iMacs/MacBooks/Mac minis/Mac Pros Late 2012 and after, IIRC.
