Apple introducing a product is not political. It's Apple news.

The first reply in the Black Unity band thread is "Um, no this isn't wanted." That's a political statement. Yet it stays up.

I think it's absolute ********* that product launches are marked as political. It feels like a cop out to not have to moderate/deal with blatant hatred around these parts.

This is an interesting point. While Black Unity band may be seen as political, when Apple releases whatever it does for Chinese New Year, that's not political.

Maybe there needs to be a "Society" flag so people can argue about that too 🙃

I would say that is exactly why it is being done. They used to not consider such articles political, but inevitably a debate about race and sexuality would arise in every thread, and it required a lot of moderation. I remember when they used to just block all comments on these articles. Moving it to the political section means they no longer need to block comments, and can avoid having to do the additional moderation.

So I understand the decision from a site moderation POV, but it's disappointing that these product releases have to be "political" by default.

After considering it, I appreciate them putting "possibly political" things in the Political area so we can actually have a discussion without everyone getting suspended

I also like to see "who's been swimming naked when the tide goes out"

Helps me to know who is who on the forum with what they say, positions they support and stances they defend

I'm not talking about the political subforum. I'm talking about making news articles about product releases "political news" because they don't want to moderate outright white supremacy.
Well, you can always decide to see if you can become a mod. Then you could do it.
