black x on battery icon ?

got home from a new york city trip to find the black x over my battery icon. probably from keeping it in my bag for 2 days , on and without using the adapter. what can i do to fix this. its the first 13 in white macbook.

and what does the button on the outside of the battery indicate? with the 5 green lights?

I had this same issue with my old PowerBook.

I took it to the genius bar and it had something to do with the connectors on the battery not responding with the ones on the laptop.

Battery was the issue not the PB.

It was under warranty, they replaced the battery and it was fine.

Press the button and if all lights light it is fully charged.
