It sounds like this is an isolated incident, specific to the UK, and not global.
Have they released the Bold in other countries yet?

My US iPhone 3G worked well in London.

Apparently it's a 2G to 3G handover issue, which Vodafone also had but solved before release.

You also need to remember that the Bold has yet to be released by AT&T because of software and 3G issues with it.

The Bold came to Canada first, and I haven't heard of any problems here.

I'll bet it's a problem mainly in areas of concentrated users, e.g., NYC or London. I never had a problem with my Tilt 3G in NYC until the iPhone 3G was released. And I never have a problem with my iPhone 3G now in LA, where users are less concentrated.
