So I finally made the switch from the BlackBerry Storm (yes I used that for 4 years). I have a ton of BlackBerry chargers so my question is.. will using them with the microusb to lightning connector ruin the iphone long term or is it safe?

Safe. I've charged my iPhone off of all sorts of non-Apple chargers. Might take longer, but it's not going to hurt it.
