BlackBerry, messaging services from AT&T

About a month ago, I cancelled my Blackberry Data Plan for economic reasons. Short story.....All my BlackBerry Apps became worthless....since they consume Data. So I hid them, till I reactivate my Data Plan one day. However, I was wondering if my Instant Messaging app (AIM) also consumes Data? or is it like SMS? Another question, if I don't have a Data Plan, however I have unlimited messaging, can I still send MMS, or Video Clips from a my phone to another phone? or is that still consuming Data?

IM's go through data, MMS has data, but it is accounted for when they give you the plan, so you can send MMS.
