My blackbook is
the 2008 model

2.4ghz intel core 2 duo
250GB
2GIG RAM
etc, etc you know the deal!

The trade is for a similarish MBP

2.33ghz
2gig ram
160GB HD

the thing is with this trade though to me is that the hard drive is smaller in the MBP. I like to keep a lot of media with me on the go and I need that room for expansion. Though I could replace the HD to make it bigger; I'm not sure how much that would have to cost me - I don't want to spend too much.

Though I like the idea of a bigger screen on the MBP, and the better graphics card since I'm getting into more amateur film making.

The processor speed is a little lower but I figure I won't be be able to tell much of a difference?

What do you guys think? Is one worth more than the other?

The graphics card of the Pro will make a big difference and will offset the slightly slower CPU, and plus you'll probably have to get an external hard drive anyways if you're doing lots of video work, and a bigger screen is always better for editing.

Check out recently completed sales on Ebay; that's the best way to find the true market value for older laptops.

I wouldn't do it. The reason I would get a Macbook pro today over a macbook are:

1) Backlit keyboard (the 2.33 Model has that)
2) Multitouch trackpad (the 2.33 DOES NOT have it)
3) Nvidia Graphics (the 2.33 Model has ATI X1600)
4) LED Backlit screen (the 2.33 Model DOES NOT have it)
5) Penryn based (The 2.33 is a Merom)

So, only 1 of my 5 criteria is met, I would keep the newer technology based Mac with the 800Mhz FSB.

I say go for the pro. It will have a lot better resale value what you choose to get rid of it. Take a look at the old powerbooks, they are only going for a little less than macbooks.

Get the MBP; I got one in April and it is really neat on a desk, far neater in appearance given its screen size than I had imagined it would have been. Moreover, the screen is simply superb - and as you mention amateur movie making, this ought to be a major consideration - while the spec is excellent as is the build quality, which would only enhance its resale value should that become necessary.
:apple: MBP, 15.4", 2 GB RAM, 2.4ghz, 160 HDD

If you are wanting to work with video and plan on using an external HD having the Firewire 800 port that the MBP offers is a nice plus.
