I have been trying to jailbreak my 2nd Gen iPod Touch with firmware 3.1.2 multiple times now and it just won't work. I get the screen with the USB cable and the Itunes logo and then it goes black and doesn't reboot.

EDIT: I've tried restoring, manually putting it into DFU mode, moving the blackra1n file... I don't know what else to do. Pwnage Tool says that your iPod must be jailbroken before using it and since blackra1n isn't working it seems like I'm out of options unless someone has a fix for me.

EDIT 2: The model number starts with MB.

I had the same problem

What you do is, do the regular process. WHen it goes to the screen with the USB cable, close blackra1n and open and run it again.

I used Blackra1n today and everything went smoothly, my ipod (2G) restarted and it said it was jailbroken. However do I need Cydia now to download more apps? When looking for Cydia app via google, I couldn't get anywhere. I found Pwnage tool and downloaded that because that will install cydia. When I start Pwnage tool I select ipod 2G and then it starts looking for the IPSW, which I found and copied onto my desktop for easy reference. It has now been 45 minutes and it can't find the ISPW. When I go to expert mode in Pwnage I get the "Browse for file" but when I click on it nothing happens.

I did find a place to download Cydia via "Installer App". I have my ipod plugged into my computer, it says it sees it on the App when I open it up, but when I try to install Cydia, it says it can't find my ipod! Any suggestions?
I know it may be a bit of overkill to run Pwnage after it has been jailbroken with Blackra1n but I'm trying to get the Cydia program on. I've also tried RedSnow which found the IPSW but it said it was the wrong one (3.1.2). and woulnd't break it.

Any and all help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

BTW I'm running Macbook, OSX 10.6.2, Itunes 9.0.2. All software is up to date. Pwnage 3.1.4, Blackra1n RC3

worked, look at:http://www.quickpwn.com/2009/10/jailbreak-iphone-3-1-2.html

Thread jack much?

It didn't. It's actually not relevant at all because I can't even jailbreak it in the first place. And "asking my question under yours" is thread jacking. Plus your question was something that a simple YouTube search and some research of the program could have answered. Save bandwith for the people with legitimate problems, not the lazy.

Btw, geekatbirth, your way didn't work for me.

Blackra1n RC3? did you download the newest iTunes? Mac or PC? Restart your computer before trying it

I would wait, GeoHot, creator of BlackRa1n, will be releasing a new Blackra1n. The new one will make the jailbreak untethered.
