Blank MS Word for Mac file icons

Recently my file icons for .docx and .doc file types changed to a blank sheet icon. I have selected open with→change all to no avail.

- If I use the touch command to make a new .docx file the icon is normal, but if I open it with Word and save as to a new name the icon goes back to a blank sheet.
- I reinstalled MS Office to no avail
- When I create a new user, the icon is normal
- I have trashed ~/Library/Preferences to no avail

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

I too have this issue and so it appears do many others. I followed a link that emptied my Library / Cache files and this fixed a few, but the problem still persists.

I too would appreciate any help to resolve this.
