On my dad's eMac (which I don't have immediate access to) running 10.4.11, he's encountered a weird problem for which the solution that's worked for me before, hasn't for him.
He attempted to delete an email in Mail, and rather than deleting the email, the beach ball of doom appeared, Mail closed itself down, and the dock disappeared. When he attempted to restart Mail, he got a completely blank/white window. When he opens a Finder window, the window opens blank/white. Also, dropdown menus from the menu bar open as blank and empty, and don't disappear (the area that the window occupied remains undrawn).
I've had the blank window/dropdown thing happen to me before (but not the disappearing dock), and the solution was to simply restart and all was well again. It didn't help for him.
I had him restart it three times in rapid succession, and zap the p-ram for good measure, no effect.
I know I don't have enough good information for help, but does anyone have any thoughts as to what might be going on with him and a solution that I can talk him through over the phone?
Thanks for looking...
