Hi all,

Just wanted to share something I thought was funny. I've been part of MR since about 2004 when I finally had used a Mac running Mac OS X. Went from an old Lombard to iBook G3 to iMac G3 to new (at the time) iBook G4. During 2004-2007, I had met some wonderful people on here. I'm not sure if they're still around on here. Made a few friends that actually I've kept in touch randomly throughout the years. Its amazing.

One of them reached out a couple days ago as he saw my post. I'm just thinking omg, I remember his username and whoa! You don't realize how you can recognize people after so long. 16 years go. There was quite a bustle in this community with different topics, posts, help, etc. Community discussions, hardware/software help, the typical forums on here. This is the only, only, only forum I've actually kept in touch with people - and I've joined a lot.

Maybe MR is more than just Macs, Apple, and related technologies. Maybe its community, friendship, and life? I've just never experience something like this. To have contacts on here from 15-16 years ago. It's a really weird feeling.

Have you experienced something like that?

Thanks

I'm pretty active in the PowerPC forums here on MR. We all share a common love for the Macs of the era you mention. Most of us are in contact with each other outside the forum and it's not uncommon for us to ship old Macs to each other. I have at east three or four Macs that were shipped to me free of charge (including the shipping). One, an MBP I am typing this on, came all the way from Germany.

Most of us know each other as the community is tight-knit. We don't see a lot of transient traffic through our forum (when was the last time you used a PowerPC Mac) so it's all pretty friendly.

It's not uncommon then to be contacted by members who've moved on.

That’s great that you’ve built those connections here. I don’t post on MacRumors super often and have gone through a couple of usernames, but the forums that I frequented in my teens and twenties are unfortunately no longer around. Those connections have long been lost. If I could do it over again I would try to keep them going for longer.
