Bleaching hair: DIY or professional?

Well I have a small mohawk and for the holiday weekend I am going to get it dyed red, white and blue. I have jet black hair. I am half mexican so it is very rough/course and dry. I was told to get it bleached to get white (And get blue+red). Since it is so short I don't mind if it is damaged as I can just shave it back down and regrow it black(Right?).

So I will need to go to a salon to get it colored. But as for bleaching it, it is $35 for the salon to do it. So my mom is saying "We'll just spray clorox bleach on it!" Is this safe? Has anyone here done it before? Or do you know anyone who has?

Don't use clorox bleach. They make bleach kits for hair at beauty supply stores. I don't know if target or walmart will have anything but I know for a fact beauty supply stores have it. I used to do it myself. Get a high volume developer for the bleach powder. After applied, check small pieces of hair for desired color. try looking up sallys beauty in the yellow pages. That's what we have where I live.

get a real hair bleaching kit from a pharmacy.

its not only about your hair
but the damage you may do to your scalp.

Do NOT spray Clorox on it! Get a kit from a pharmacy or go to the salon. The salon is truly your best bet.

Well I went to walgreens and got a red+blue splat color dye which included a bleaching kit. I couldn't get the white so it is just half red and half blue. Took pictures but I'm about to leave so it will have to wait till later tonight.

As promised...

1st step-Bleaching. This is about 15/60 minutes in
2nd-About 50 minutes into bleaching
3rd-After washing bleach out
4th-After putting red dye in
5th-Blue with dye in
6th-Red dye washed out
7th-Red hair spiked
8th-All spiked
