I got a .wps file from a friend containing all the answers to our presentation in buisness class. he emailed it to me and i tried to open it in word 08 but i got an error that it was a blocked file type. wft? I tried to save it as a docx and open it but again, it said its a blocked file type. This is why is switched to macs cause Windows gives youa billion errors and mac os x just works. Any toughts on how to get around this? i tried microsoft support but it said to save it as a docx or get an older version of windows. kinda BS in my opinion.

thanks in advance.

wps is not a Word file type. It's a Microsoft Works file. As per this link it's not supported by Word on the Mac. I suggest you get your friend to resend it as a doc file.

Send it to me and I will open it on my PC and change it to a doc or docx file for you.
