In the past I've posted several links to the always interesting, Cheapskate's Guide to Computers and the Internet - a while ago the author also launched a self hosted (on a Raspberry Pi) "alternative" social media platform, Blue Dwarf.
This is especially relevant to this forum has the website is fully compliant with older, non https browsers as indicated here on OS9 with Classilla (The Cheapskate Guide..is also good to go on old browsers too.)
Blue Dwarf is not exclusively a computer talk space - within reason, anything goes and while some of the discussion there can get a little "robust" it's certainly not a breeding ground for hate speech or the like.
The owner actively participates, welcomes feedback and is always open to suggestions on how to develop the platform further - a very thoughtful and considerate creator who is profoundly motivated to make something productive and positive in the online sphere.
Give it a go and participate
