I just came back to my laptop and found that the screen had a blue tint or color cast to it. I was going to restart the machine, but going to the screen calibration profiles and switching back and forth fixed it......is my card on the way out?

If you can't fix it with software, it is possible that the wire that carries the blue signal* is broken somewhere. Can you see any reds or greens at all, even after resetting to the default color profile?

*This is how VGA cables work. If the MBP uses an internal VGA cable, it'll be the same. If the computer uses a DVI connection, I have no idea what's going on.

software (sys pref) fixes it. It's like it's dropping its calibration file.
