blue screen

After installing leopard, I get to the desktop. My resolution was not set right for my screen (was set at 1024x768@75) it should be 1280x1024@60 (19" LCD). If I make any change at all in display settings the screen just goes blue. Now I cannot get back into OS X in normal mode, have to boot in safe mode. Same happens in safe mode, change display settings and screen goes blue.. ideas?

just did a complete reinstall, same thing.. this time I even just changed it from millions of colors to thousands and now blue screen.. ugh.. ideas?

new findings.. if I change something in the display, it goes blue.. let it sit for 20 minutes and it will go to power save and screen goes off, move the mouse and display comes back.. suggestions?
