i just brought my imac home...had it all set up. then i saw the disc for the OS and tried to install it. then i realized that, duh, the OS is already installed, this is probably just a back up for future use. so i cancelled out of the install...but now the machine won't start up...it gets to a blue screen with the progress indicator but won't go beyond that. any ideas how to get it to start up?

thanks.

Haha that was smart... :)

Go ahead and pop in the discs again, and reboot your computer while holding down the C key on the keyboard while doing so.

It will then boot from disc, and reinstall the OS.

You'll then want to reinstal all the extras like iLife from the other disc.

excellent...thanks, omi. but i'm wondering - do i need to install the OS disc? did the machine come with it already installed? if so, am i doing any harm in re-installing the OS?

thanks, obi-won, you're our only hope...

Well out of the box, yes it did so technically you didn't need to instal the OS. But since you started reinstalling then canceling, one more install looks like the only thing you can do.
